On the third day Tim and I were in the US, my aunt brought us to Westfield Oakbridge mall at San Jose for some shopping at Macy’s. Macy’s was having quite a sale going on then. Tim bought 7 pieces of work shirts and pants (Kenneth Cole, Perry Ellis, etc) that totaled to USD100. It was a great buy; my aunt even found a pair of really good quality trousers for only USD6.99!
I didn’t find much clothes for myself though. I bought a pair of DKNY jeans for only USD28.28. In retrospect, I finally realised how easy it was for Americans to wear designer clothing; it was all due to amazing sales. How I wish we have sales like that over here.
At Macy’s, I bought some Clinique items which I use on a regular basis. Come to think about it, I should have bought more to stock up, as they would be so much more expensive here and in Malaysia *smack own forehead*.

Clinique Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
Man, those sales assistants sure are stingy in giving samples. They only gave me one (Clinique’s Moisture Surge), despite my purchasing two items. My aunt cooked up a story about wanting to try Clinique out, and she gave her another small sample of the Moisture Surge. My sweet aunt gave me the sample when the sales assistant was out of sight :p
Benefit High Beam
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans
I did not like the sales assistants at the Benefit counter at Oakbridge mall’s Macy’s. They were rude, unhelpful, and do not seem to know their products well. When I asked one of them about the Skinny Jeans cream shadow, she did not even know what it was! Plus she had some seriously scary makeup going on on her face. Tsk tsk.
One thing I do not like about shopping in the US is the sales tax. In California, the sales tax is 8.25%, which is really high. Plus the prices of the items do not automatically have the tax calculated into ’em. I find that really annoying, especially when I forgot about it, had the exact change for the items, only to have the tax added into the price in the end and I had to fork out more money. Gah.
Anyway, as I was walking about in the mall, something really cool caught my eye. It was a vending machine for Elizabeth Arden products!
How interesting, eh? Swipe your credit card, and get your makeup/skincare product(s). It’s just like buying a bottle of Coke 😉
Do stay tuned for my next post, as I shall be showing you the stuff I bought at Sephora. Whee!
I heard of those vending machines. My colleague bought Ipod accessories on them…hehe…so so cool! Never thought I’d see one for cosmetics though. So cool. Designer brands are just so so overpriced in the rest of the world.
The vending machine is so freakishly cool! Elizabeth arden products wouldn’t be something that I’d just “pick-up” though. They ought to have vending machines for drugstore products.
Vending machine is sooo cool but what about testers? No more testers to try on??? If we have it here in Asia, I have a feeling there will be flocks of crazy buyers trying to get their hands on that machine! LOL
About designer clothing, so TRUE, no wonder people can easily buy Coach bags there because of the crazy sale! While we NEVER have sale for these brands here…*jealous*
Trust me about the stingy Clinique counters, here, they don’t even give you samples! I bought 3 FULL size clinique 3 step program and NO SAMPLES at all!!!! they said they ran out of it! darn huh???
I can’t wait for more posts from you! Glad your hubby was able to buy a couple of work clothes for USD100!!
Hey Tine,
Wow! The Arden vending machine sounds really cool! But yea, what about testers and all? LOL.
Great job with the whole shopping series. Been looking fwd to all of them, but most especially the Sephora shopping haul! =D
My question is…how did you manage to fit all this in your suitcase? These are great hauls!
Ooo…vending machine for makeup emergency! We gals all know how bad it can be to find that you didn’t have your makeups with you and everything is just smudging off your face huh? Maybe they should put smaller ones in the ladies, next to those tampons dispensers. 😀
Indulgent Diva:
I saw those iPod vending machines at Vegas. Very cute :p
Connie:
Yeah me neither actually. That was why I thought it was merely a novelty, just like the iPod vending machine, more than anything else. Higher end products, I’d wanna go to the cosmetics counter. Unless I’m already using the product, and need to restock.
Askmewhats:
Sorry, babes, no testers for this one. I guess it’s assumed that you’ve either already tested your stuff before buying (but then again, if you tested it and liked it, why not buy it at the counter where you might snag free samples?)
To be honest, I think the excuse “we ran out of samples” is just lame. I mean, if you don’t want to give, or you can’t give due to company policy or something, just say so. We’re not idiots and won’t hold it against you.
Syen:
Next up, Sephora! ;p
Fabuless Beauty:
If there’s a will, there’s a way 😉 And gosh darn it, my will was strong! Tee hee.
MisSmall:
Haha, that’s a fab idea actually. They should have emergency makeup machines in the loos, especially at clubs. Goodness knows how good your business will be :p
Holy crap!! A vending machine?!! Sooooo coool!!!!!!
Also, I have High Beam too. Yay! And the girls at Benefit counter were bitches? Oh man, now I am ashamed.
=p
