I first heard about Badger balms from Beetrice when she bought a few tins back from her trip to London in 2007. Badger balms are sadly not available in Malaysia (not to my knowledge anyway). So when I saw the Badger balms in David Jones, I thought I’d try one out. I was originally going to buy the Sleep Balm but found the smell a tad strong, so I decided to get the Night Night balm for children instead.
Description:
Night-Night Balm is made to help ease younger minds into the magical realm of the sleep world. For this special kid-friendly formula, we chose essential oils that are known to be good for children and are also known to promote feelings of safety, cheerfulness, reverence and calm. Chamomile helps children to calm down and unwind from nighttime activities. Lavender helps children to relax and feel soothed, while Sandalwood instlls a feeling of reverence. Mandarin & Spearmint help kids feel safe and uplifted. Rub a little onto temples, neck, lips, wrists or anywhere that will help to diffuse the wonderful aroma into the air around the child.
Ingredients:
Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Natural Beeswax, Organic Castor Bean Oil, Organic Aloe Extract, Essential Oils of Lavender, Sandalwood, Mandarin, Spearmint, and Organic Chamomile.
The texture of the balm is waxy, and kinda reminds me of Zambuk ointment (does anyone remember that?). It has a lovely, soothing scent of lavender (and all that stuff you read in the description :p). It’s not very sticky, which is good, because I can’t stand sticky goo on my nose. Although due to its hardly-sticky-ness, you might need to swipe the balm more to get the wax out.
The balm claims to help children sleep easier. I don’t know about kids since I do not have children, but it sure helped me when I was having restless nights. The scent calmed my senses. The husband loves it too; when he had trouble sleeping due to an upset stomach, I rubbed the ointment on his chest and nose. The next thing I heard were snores 😛
It’s not as strong as Vicks so it wouldn’t be as effective if used to nurse a cold. But the mild and comforting scent would help to ease a restless night anytime.
Badger balms come in adorable little tins with pictures of different badgers on the cover, depending on the type of balm. A 0.75oz balm costs USD5.50 or AUD13.95, and a 2oz balm USD10 or AUD19.95. You can get this from David Jones. A 2oz tin would last you donkey years.
I don’t like the fact that it costs a lot more in Australia though. Damn import taxes. Oh well, I’ll save that rant for another post.
My next purchase would be the Winter Wonder Balm, given that it’s winter now. Can’t wait to try it out!
What I like about it: Comes in an adorable, portable tin. Love the mild scent.
What I did not like about it: The wax is quite hard, so you have to rub hard on it to get it out.
I have the same tin can but it’s from Burt’s bees, I love the tin can! lol but same experience as yours, I hate it that the wax tends to get so hard LOL
It was £10 for three in UK, or £4 each if bought in singles when I bought it… 🙂
Mine hasn’t gone hard though – if anything, the sleep balm one reminds me of a slightly firmer Vicks texture! Different manufacturer or temperature, maybe?
Askmewhats:
Oh wait, I have one from Burt’s Bees too! Is it the banana cream? :p
Beetrice:
10 pounds for three? That’s cheap! That’s great that yours didn’t harden. I have to practically scrape mine to get some out. Don’t know about manufacturer lor, but yeah, maybe different temperature.
i don’t quite remember, but yeah, its definitely from Burt’s Bees. 😀 How’d you like it? I gave mine away lol
I started using this again these few nights. I bought it for my son but I love the smell. Very soothing!
Have you tried their cuticle care? Love that too.
me still using the blueblack wax zambuk now. hehe. this balm looks so cute!
Askmewhats:
You mean the Burt’s Bees banana cream? I’m not too sure. I’ve heard great stuff about it but the smell of bananas was too strong for me to take. Not really my thing to have my hands smelling like something monkeys would go for :p
Sesame:
Nope haven’t tried that yet. Is it good? Have you reviewed it? If not, please do 😛 That should help me make up my mind on it.
Prettybeautiful:
Yay, someone still remembers good ol’ Zambuk! Potent stuff, man! 😀
I think we are referring the same thing, coz I am into scent too and if scent’s bad…sorry bye bye product 🙁
ooh! those tins look cute. but I’m possibly allergic to beeswax 🙁
I saw the artwork and the first thing I thought was….”Is that turkey? Why is there a turkey on some balm product….Damn. I’m hungry”.
And then I realise it is not a turkey. But I’m still hungry now.
Not really a review but I mentioned it here:

Btw, have just done the What’s in my makeup bag meme.
oh i saw it in my sch’s store! i thought it was candy tin at first, lol. costs around $11+ here in singapore.
Askmewhats:
Yeah I think so. Too strong a smell of bananas if you ask me. But then again, a lot of people like it because of the bananas. To each their own 🙂
Connie:
Oh dear. What sort of lipbalm do you use then, since a lot of them have beeswax?
Constant Drama:
Hee hee, a turkey?! Okay, I have to fix my (lackof) photography skills :p
Sesame:
Thanks for doing the tag. Love it that it’s a video!
I’ll give the Cuticle Care balm a go 🙂
sHin:
It does look like a candy tin, doesn’t it? That’s why I like it; it’s so cute :p
singapore is selling them now. u sld just cross the causeway for it.
