Fashion designers are seriously lacking in inspiration the past five to ten years. First we brought back the sixties, where classic slimline pencil skirts came back in fashion. Not that I’m complaining as I find those more flattering on me than the A-line ones anyway. Oh, and Twiggy bobs. Next, these fashion designers brought back the seventies. Peasant tops and billowy skirts came into play. Peace out, bro.
Then they brought back the eighties and early nineties. Now this, this is one era of fashion trend which I never thought would be resurrected. I wanted it to burn, die and never come back. Over-bright neon, retro colours and patterns swirling around. Legwarmers. Shoulder pads. Plastic jewelry. Euuww.
And, very recently, this.
I remembered wearing these sneakers when I was 12 years old. I remembered begging my mum to get me LA Gear high-top sneakers. All my friends at church wore ’em. Or cool Reeboks. Nike was very high-end to us young ‘uns back then, so if you even owned a pair of Reeboks, you’d have all your friends wowing over your sparkly new colourful shoes. My mum never gotten me LA Gear, of course, ‘cos they were expensive. She got me a pair of cheaper Power sneakers, which looked just as good as the LA Gears and Reeboks.
After a while, the trend wore off. Truth be told, I got really tired of the crazy mismatched colours which could never go with any piece of clothing I owned. I was absolutely relieved that simple trainers came into fashion. Being a slave to fashion had given me many ugly photos of my younger self. Never again, I said. Those shoes should just burn in hell.
So please, please tell me why these horrendous shoes are back?!
And at AUD200 a pair? Believe me when I say that people actually paid good money for these shoes. Sigh.
I reckon in a couple of years, year 2000’s fashion’s going to be back. Which was basically sixties’ fashion. So tell me, oh designers. Are you guys ever going to come up with something a little more original?
Please, for all our sakes?
Oh gosh I remember those sneakers too! I was too young to wear ’em at the time but the year I turned twelve I begged my dad for a pair of hightop sneakers. Like you, I ended up with Power brand only n not the Reeboks I coveted. Hahaha.
I have never encountered these…”shoes” before this or now. But if I ever do, I will burn them all to hell for you.
Also its not only the fashion designers who are lacking inspirations, its filmmakers as well. I’m sick and tired of remakes, book/comics/videogame adaptations.
I mean c’mon. Some originality would be welcomed. In fashion and on the silver screen.
you are so right about designers lacking inspiration! i’ve seen a lot of ugly creations and “dupe” creations! A lot of dupes are coming in i think because they knew it’s going to be saleable! I’ve seen a whole lot of Ipanema dupes, Havaianas, etc.. 🙂
oh yeah, i cant stand the multi color shoes, they are just so wrong, with any outfit. I prefer single color sneakers 😀
Oi, I’m hating most things fashion lately just because they’re remakes.. Or just REALLY ugly.
As far as shoes go, I can deal with bi-colored shoes, like black&pink or grey&blue, or variations of those or others, but when you have colors that don’t match, like those shoes, you have serious problems. lol. I can’t stand shoes like that. They look so tacky. >.>
And I agree with theconstantlydramatic one. Originality is missing in movies, books, tv shows, and everything else these days. It’s ridiculous.
i don’t necessarily like the trend but i’m sure if i was 15 or so i’d prob be eating them up! my little sister watches fresh prince of bel air on nick at nite, so to her it’s retro, old school hhhaa! this is right up her alley. i like bright sneakers, but that old 80-90’s style is yuck to me lol
